how to solve 1/3x=13?

i have this math problem at my school and i cant figure it out! im homeschooled and my parents dont know how to do this type of math!! please help!!

1st interpretation:
(1/3)x = 13
x = 13/(1/3)
x = 13(3/1)
x = 39

Answer: x = 39
-----------
2nd interpretation:
1/(3x) = 13
1 = 13(3x)
39x = 1
x = 1/39

Answer: x = 1/39

Whichever way you want it.

if the denominator is 3 then multiply both sides by 3
1/3x=13
x=39
if the denominator is 3x then multiply both sides by 3x
1/3x=13
1=39x
now divide both sides by 39
1/39=x

If you mean (1/3)x = 13 then you multiply both sides by 3 to get x = 39.
If you mean 1/(3x) = 13 then you multiply both sides by 3x to get 1 = 29x and then divide by 29 to get x=1/39

1st of all you need to write clearly what the equation is. Is it 1/(3x)=13 or (1/3)x=13? They are different.

1/(3x)=13
=> 3x = 1/13
=> x = 1/39

(1/3)x=13
=> x = 39

Whenever you have a problem like this:
a/b=c/d,
flip it, crossing multiply it,
ad=bc, in your case, 1/(3x)=13,
consider 1/(3x)=13/1,
1*1=3x*13
x=1/39
Home schooling has one or two problems.
1. Lack of quality control.
2. Lack of school mates who may help.
