這是關於part of speech的問題，就是說話時句字的結構，哪種詞語先行，哪種詞語跟在後面。

先要講番少少背景資料，英語的發問句會將動詞放在句首，例如：
直述句：You are a girl.
變成問句就是：Are you a girl?
is, am, are等verb to be 可以直接放在句首，這個很易理解。

但當句子內是動作動詞時，就不可以直接將動詞放在句首，使之成為問句，例如play：
直述句：You play football. (present simple tense表示你有玩足球的嗜好)
錯誤的問句：Play you football?
做問句時動作動詞不可直接放在句首，所以由前置動詞auxiliary verb代勞，simple tense用do, does, did；continuous tense用is, am, are, was, were；perfect tense用have, has, had；future tense用will, shall, would。

有了以上概念後，可以直接答你的問題：
1. 一樓的仁兄講得冇錯，因為是continuous tense進行時式，所以要用are.

直述句：You are playing football.(are是動詞，playing是分詞participle而不是動詞)
問句：Are you playing football?(正確的問句)
錯誤的問句：Do you playing football?(Do是前置動詞，playing是分詞，由於前置分詞不是動詞，嚴格來說這句沒有動詞，所以這句子錯誤)
正確的問句：Do you play football?(Do是前置動詞，play是動詞，這句有動詞，所以成立。)

2. 時式除了指示時間之外，也指示做某動作的態度。如present continuous tense表示現在做，並且做緊，未完成的意思。所以are you playing football?即表示你係咪現在玩，仲玩緊，未玩完的意思.
Present simple tense表示現在玩，經常會玩，是嗜好的意思。

以上可能會好理論，但明白了以後，以後就唔會犯相同的錯誤！

It is because playing is continuous tense. You must use are. If you use do, you must
say Do you play football? However the meaning is exactly different. Are you playing
football means if you are playing football at the moment while Do you play football
means if you know how to play football. Hope you will understand the differences between them.

1. Are you doing your homework?
meaning:if you are doing homework at the moment
Do you do homework?
meaning: if you need to do homework.
