5(2y + 3)
= 5(2y) + 5(3)
= 10y + 15

5(2y + 3) = 5(2y) + 5(3) = 10y + 15

first you distribute the 5 to 2y and 3. which means you use the distributive property. so that means is that you do 5*2y=10y and 5*3=15. so now the problem reads 10y+15 =

Multiply 5 with everything that's in the brackets:

5(2y+3)

= 10y + 15

Hope that helps

Distribution,
(10y+3)
For the future be sure to point out that it says simplify.

5(2y + 3) =
10y + 15 =
10y = - 15
y = - 15/10 or - 3/2 or - 1 1/2 or - 1.5.

So, 5(2y+3) = 10y+15.

10 y + 15

5(2y + 3)
= 5(2y) + 5(3)
= 10y + 15

hmmm...

5(2y+3) = 5 x (2y + 3)

As we know (I hope), multiplication is distributive over addition,
i.e. a x (b + c) = a x b + a x c

so, 5 x (2y + 3) = 5 x 2y + 5 x 3
= 10y + 15
or 10 x y + 15
i.e ten times y plus fifteen
