1.我覺得你改那樣是可以的。
cure someone of something 要不然就直接說cure something
所以我覺得OK

2.兩句的差異在於時間的長度。
There is a sharp decrease in the birth rate. 可能是2009-2010年，出生率大幅下降。
可是若用There has been a sharp decrease in the birth rate.
則可能是2000-2010年，每年出生率都大幅下降。用完成式就有持續很長一段時間的感覺。
若單純從中文來區分的話，第一句我會翻：出生率大幅下降；第二句我會翻，出生率持續大幅下降。

3. .My sorrow deepened as I looked back on my school day.
會說這樣的話的能一定已經離開學校，進入社會了，所以才會説my school day.意思就類似中文的我的學生時代、我的學生時期，我還是學生的時候等......。
我會翻成當我回顧我的學生時期，我就更加地悲傷。
my school day表示還在學校的日子，也就是還是學生的時候嚕!

簡單說就是用will V的時候就只是簡單的表示我們明天會V
若用will be Ving則表示我們未來的那個時間點一定正在V
如：你的例子
Despite the weather , we will still be having a picnic tomorrow.
我會翻儘管天候不佳，我們明天一定還是(在某個地方開開心心地)野餐。(比較強調狀態，某個時候一定在正做該動詞的動作)

Despite the weather , we will still have a picnic tomorrow.
我會翻儘管天候不佳，我們明天還是會去野餐。(比較強調動作，未來一定會V)

.為什麼用"on" my school day?
用on 不是因為my school day, 是因為前面用looked. looked on - 看,觀察.

1.Aspirin will cure you of your headache.
Q.這句能不能改成?
Aspirin will cure your headache.

的確可以 只是這兩兩種寫法的著重點/味道不同而已 試翻譯如下:
Aspirin will cure you of your headache.
阿斯匹靈會把你的頭痛治好.
Aspirin will cure your headache.
阿斯匹靈會治好你的頭痛.

請問: 以上這兩句國語 您覺得語意上有差別嗎? 若沒有 那何以會有這兩種用法呢? 簡單的說 這就是中文/英語 經過長時間的演變 和不同地區使用者的流行用法 而自然形成的不同慣用結構 無需強求您自己非要說哪一種用法更漂亮 或更簡潔 一切都是使用的習慣而已 .

再請參考以下幾例:
Give me your book. <=> Give your book to me.

Sing me a song. <=> Sing a song for me.

Pay him the money. <=> Pay the money to him.

I want to ask him a favor. <=> I want to ask a favor of him.

The man robbed her of her money. <=> The man robbed her money.

They deprived him of his rights. <=> They deprived his rights.

We relieved her of her anxiety. <=> We relieved her anxiety.

Taipei city <=> the city of Taipei

California state <=> the state of California

這兩句話的差異在於:
第一句泛指一般情形/ 事實性敘述 並不特別強調時態
(對於生育率而言 有大幅下降的趨勢.)
第-二句則特別強調現在完成式的時態
(對於生育率而言 已經有大幅下降的趨勢了.)

3. My sorrow deepened as I looked back on my school day.
用on my school day 的理由為:

as 引導後面的時間副詞子句 說明當主詞回顧 (looked back) 於(on) 他
自己之前的學生時期 (my school days) 亦即 on my school days 是
介詞片語在此 做副詞片語 向前修飾動詞片語 looked back 的方向/情
境.
