How long do male hormones affect neutered cats?

Our youngest cat was neutered yesterday & is already back to his sweet self. We had to delay his surgery til after the holidays & he'd already begun to "spray". It's been over 10 years since we've had a kitty altered because this has usually been done @ the rescue but we found this kid as a stray. So, can someone remind me, how long will it be before he consistently thinks *inside* the box?

it takes about a month for the hormones to completely leave the body,I would imagine he will stop spraying after a while if you diligently clean the areas,so he doesnt smell it anymore.if he hasnt been spraying long.

My vet, when she neutered a 6 year old stray we brought in, told us it generally takes 2 months for the testosterone hormone to get down to the lower end of the spectrum. But I think you'd see a huge reduction in his aggression and spraying by the end of the first month.

He's still young so it may not take that long. Our stray cat was several years old before he was neutered and had been outside for a long time. He was still spraying a few months afterwards but finally quit. I think the fact that your boy hasn't been spraying for long will help end it sooner.

Un-neutered males will spray their territory with stinky musk, be a bit more feisty and less responsive to their human family, if allowed outdoors will be at greater risk as they wander far and wide in search of a mate, and more likely to suffer certain cancers and urinary tract infections which are common to un-neutered/un-spayed cats.
