I think the most influential happening in 2009 is the financial crisis which started in the USA. It affected the whole world economically on the one hand and it has turned the the balance of economic power from the west to the east, setting free a nation like China to achieve what is rightfully her place in the world.
Why are most countries so much affected, and why is China among the countries recovered so soon? The reason is, most countries followed the example if the US, and were over-developed too much. I just wonder how America and Europe can sustain their growth by simply backing their economic system with money, so that one can borrow from a bank and the bank can lend out with government money.
Why is China less affacted because China has never over-developed so much, China is a producing country with man-power to adjust. China can turn inward to spend its over-production of what other countries do not need.
I think this incident has changed the balance of econonic power from west to east, because what the US and the West have lost, China and the East have gained. Only the fools will put faith in the US economic system any more. "Faith" is what people need. This is what Wan, the Chinese premier once remarked. I think the US has enjoyed this "faith Element" long enough, and it will just take time to undoing this after all.
