你可能是問可否I thought we have them (photoes) whipped...
could係要的因為前面I thought的意思是我以為...可以(can轉past tense跟thought的past tense看齊。看來最終沒有成事或這程予失敗了，所以作者以past tense和could來表達原本應該是想這樣的...
假如沒有could而改正埋tense應該是
I thought we had them whipped...
的意思是
我以為我們已經把馬鈴薯打碎成薯蓉...
便跟前述作者似乎在說
我原本以為我們可以把馬鈴薯打成薯蓉...
有不同意思。
