It is related to the principle of vowel. When you see there is any vowel
in a word,like "swim",you have to double " m".

Vowel means 元音 in Chinese. You should know all of them : a,e,i,o,u

In the examples above which you list out, "o" and "a" are both
vowels. So, you should double the non-vowel word after the vowel.
