toy car B is stationary and toy car A is pushed to hit it at 3m/s . During the
collision , toy car B accelerates at 1 m/s^2 for 0.5s on average. toy cars A and B are of mass 3 kg and 1 kg respectively.

Apply equation of motion on car B: v = u + at
with u = 0 m/s, a = 1 m/s2, t = 0.5s, v = ?
v = 1 x 0.5 m/s = 0.5 m/s

Use conservation of momentum
3 x 3 = 3V(a) + 1 x 0.5
where V(a) is the velocity of car A after the collision
V(a) = [9 - 0.5]/3 m/s = 2.8 m/s
