If I had to guess, I would say yes. The Yankees are basically automatic (it would take several devastating injuries to derail that juggernaut), but Boston can be gotten to if they don't add a true threat to the middle of that order. Ortiz is on a steep decline, Drew is worth about 1/10 of his salary, Lowell is ancient and a holdover from the happiness following their last World Series (Cards fans can relate to this after watching Jim Edmonds go downhill after 2006). Youk is the only real threat that can bat third or fourth, and there aren't many viable options to replace him if he goes down. Whether they want to admit it or not, Boston is in trouble. They're an old team now with fragile stars. Talent is only useful if it's on the field.

The Rays, on the other hand, have been slowly developing players at skill positions and in the rotation for years. Longoria is already a top 5 3B in baseball and he's still so young. David Price will be in the rotation all season, along with a bevy of young pitching talent that has progressed nicely each season. Attentive baseball fans know that old teams rarely produce like they did in their primes. The Rays have been giving Boston fits for a couple seasons now, and it's easy to envision a scenario where they overtake them entirely in the division. With the exception of the Angels and maybe Rangers, I don't see another Wild Card threat in the AL as strong as the Rays.

I don't think so the AL East is way to strong. Yankees and Boston 1, 2

The Rays are an exciting young team...that unfortunately has to share a division with the two big spenders in baseball, the Yanks and Red Sox. If the Rays were in the Central or West divisions, or in the National League, I would say their chances were at 50%. But being in the east...tough. Maybe a 33% chance.

I hope I'm wrong. I'm not a fan of the Rays, but I really like your team's players and always root for them to have a good season. The last two have been pretty sweet for you. Let's hope NY or Boston falters next season; I don't see it happening, but you never know. Happy New Year!

Nope Boston and New York have the two best rotations!

Nope.
The Yankees are to dominant and the Red Sox have a good pitching rotation.

No, I don't think the Rays will going to make the playoffs in 2010.

I think yes. Now we got a new great closer. The young people are going in there prime. They will make the playoffs.

But next year since the rays is like the poorest team, Carl Crawford, and Carlos Pena contracts are up the rays are going to lose one of them.

Not a chance, which is unfortunate. Not in their division. The Rays should truly cherish their AL Pennant and their World Series appearance. That's a huge accomplishment for a team basically on the bottom of the bottom of MLB. Take it from a Brewers fan... The Rays just don't have the cash to sustain success (they had to give up Kazmir, etc.). 2008 was a great year for them. The stars aligned just right, but their window of opportunity is already closed.

To me they have a really good chance to get in this year. The Red Sox are depleted offensively with the loss of Bay. Now that the Sox are vulnerable the Rays have a good chance to take the wildcard if they play their cards right this coming season.

I don't think so. I think the Yankees will win the east again because they haven't changed much since last year. The wild card race is going to be close again in the A.L. but I give the Red Sox the edge. I think in the end the Red Sox, Rangers, Mariners, and Rays will all contend for the wild card and make it very intresting.
