is a firefighter a good career?

Yes, but you must be dedicated.

Without a doubt - I spent my life in law enforcement working very close with fire fighters. I also have two sons who are firefighters and a grandson who is going into the Air Force to be a fire fighter. Although I loved my job there have been many times I wish I had been a fire fighter rather than a police officer.

A firefighter is a great career! Especially if you enjoy helping, and saving people. And when you are there you are not at work you are with your family. I believe it is a strong career choice and it really takes a strong person to do it, but keep in mind it is a very risky and dangerous job, not all fun and games.

Great job; great career. But must be dedicated to the long hours, the strenuous work, and must have high tolerance for physical exertion. Must be good with following orders, be good working as a tight team, and expect dangerous/hazardous work conditions.

It is a rewarding career, but it does not pay well and involves a lot of risk. I have two small children, so I would not do it.
