Algebra help!! solve x^2-7x+6=0?

this is a quadratic equation
any equation of the form ax^2+bx+c = 0 has max of two solutions which are

[-b+sqrt(b^2-4ac)]/2a and [-b-sqrt(b^2-4ac)]/2a

this is the solution for any quadratic equation and best way to solve any of them
you will get solution x = 6 and x = 1 equation holds true if x is either 1 or 6

if you want to solve mentally , you will need to factorise the equation
something which mighthelp - think of two numbers which add upto 7(-b) and product is 6 (c)
it is 1 and 6 again otherwise

x^2-7x +6 = x^2 -6x -x + 6 = x(x-6) -(x-6) = (x-1)(x-6)
so rewriting equations as (x-1)(x-6) = 0 , we know the solution is when either x-6 = 0 or x-1 = 0 so that the product will be zero in either case
or x=6 or x = 1

just learn by rote the roots of quadratic eqn , it is necessary

1. x^2-7x+6=0
2. you split it up
(x-6)(x-1)=0
3. x-6=0 x=6
x-1=0 x =1

so x equals 1 and 6

I do math differently than a lot of people. Here's my breakdown.

X^2 - 7x = -6

36 - 42 = -6

6^2 - 7(6) = -6

-6 +6 = 0

X = 6
