If p = 10x - 4xy - 5x^2 - y^2 - 8 , where x and y are real numbers, find the largest value of p.

p = 10x - 4xy - 5x^2 - y^2 - 8= -y^2 - 4xy - 4x^2 - x^2 + 10x - 25 + 25 - 8
= -(y + 2x)^2 - (x - 5)^2 + 17
When x = 5, and y = -2x = -10, p attains the maximum of 17
