Is an Associates Degree in Health Care Administration a good start if I eventually want a nursing Degree?

I am currently earning my Associates Degree in Health Care Administration from the University Of Phoenix. I would like to get a nursing degree, but cannot devote the kind of time required now because I have a 1 year old and another on the way. Will my current degree be useful if I plan to get a nursing degree in the future?

Probably not. To get an ADN you have several science prereqs to complete, then about a 2 year program. To get a BSN you have 60 hours of science prereqs, then a 15 month to 24 month program.

Your degree is not likley to include any of the required science classes. You will probably get some of the math, history, and lit out of the way though.

Look up the list of prereqs for the program you plan to join later and see how many are included in your degree.

If you get a bachelor degree, there are often accelerated programs to get your BSN, but they often involve about 20 hours a semester (killer programs). I don't think there is anything from an associates degree to a BSN.
