On an uncalibrated thermometer, the column lengths for 0 deg Celsius and 80 deg Celsius are 6 cm and 21 cm respectively. What is the column length for 37 deg Celsius?

By the fact that expansion of matter is linear, we have:Column length for 37 C = 6 + 37 x (21 - 6)/80 = 12.9 cm
