whats is x in x+1/4x=4.5 [1/4 is a fraction] n plz show me all steps?

x + 1/4(x) = 4.5
x(1 + 1/4) = 4.5
x = 4.5/(1 + 0.25)
x = 4.5/1.25
x = 3.6

I am reading this as :-

x + (1/4) x = 4.5

4x + x = 18

5x = 18

x = 18/5

x + 1/4x is five quarters of x or 1 and a quarter x
The sum therefore says you have 1 and a quarter x = 4.5
If 4.5 is 1 and one quarter then you just want the 1 bit and not the quarter to get x
so if 5 quarters is 4.5 then 4 quarters is 4.5 divided by 5 then times by 4
which is 3.6
x + 1/4x = 4.5
1 and 1/4x = 4.5
x = 4.5 divided by 1 and 1/4
= 3.6 or three and three fifths if they want a fraction.

you would add the x+1/4x because they're like terms
then you would get 1 1/4x
then you have to get x alone so you would divide 4.5 by 1 1/4
then your answer would be 3.6 (x=3.6)
im pretty sure this is correct
