Are The Tigers Contenders or Pretenders?

It's too early to tell, but I think they're contenders. They are much like the Twins in one respect. Everyone says at the beginning of the season, "The Twinkies just don't have enough." And there they are in the post season. Detroit blew the end of last season, sure, but have a one game playoff and losing it is still contending. The loss of Granderson has to be dealt with and there are other issues, too, but it isn't even 2010 yet. They could easily contend.

you cant really judge them like that. they are trying to rebuild and even though im a yankee fan i can say they have some great talent. but if i have to pick one im saying pretender. for this year anyway

2010 they will be Pretenders because they have a lot of young new players. It will be rebuilding in Detroit next year

i love 'em but they are pretenders. Dombrowski lost his trading touch and lost 3 of our best players this offseason and got crap. Leyland cannot coach and they are the biggest choke artists on earth. as long as leyland is here we wont win a title and if we dont get someone who can hit we will not have a good record in the next few years.
