The Lantau cable car company has been warned to report accidents promptly after it disclosed an empty rescue car was slightly damaged in a fall last month.
No one was hurt but the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department said it had warned operator Ngong Ping 360 over the ‘’delayed report’’.
During a regular drill on November 18, the car used for rescuing stranded passengers was being hoisted up by a crane from a storage site at tower three near the Tung Chung terminal.
The statement did not specify the heights involved but said the mishap resulted in ‘’minor damage’’ to the carrier and the platform.
A spokesman said the company had reported the incident to the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department on November 20. He said there was no breach of statutory requirements as the incident took place after closing time and no one was injured.
A department spokesman said a warning letter was sent to the company over the ‘’delayed report’’.
The department told the company that it had to report such incidents verbally within 30 minutes and by written report in 24 hours.
In 2007, an empty cabin plunged 50 meters to the ground during a drill, but no one was hurt.
