2x + y = 6
Subtracting 2x from both sides,
y = 6 - 2x = -2(x + 3)

Subtract 2x from both sides:

2x + y = 6
2x + y -2x = 6 - 2x
y = 6 -2x

2x + y = 6
first subtract 2x from both sides
- 2x -2x
y = -2x + 6
