People stay the ways they believed the most. They give up the valuable things in their life to build the happiness to ignore the reality of life. In the play A Streetcar Named Desire, written by Tennessee Williams, the character, Stella, tries not to resist her husband’s subhuman’s actions to keep her in self-consolation. The character portrays her actions and thought that indulge in desire and ignore the cruelty from others in order to escape the reality.Stella has no other way to forget her father’s dead, which cause she needs to stay away and get a new life to escape the reality about her father’s dead. At the beginning, Stella belongs with a lovely and warmth family, however, everything are change after her father dead. She gives up lots of things that everyone desire to have, such as high quality of living style and high education. She knows she has to change her life to other side of country to forget the thing that she has not expected. She marries to a guy who calls Stanley. However she moves the top living quality down to the bottom living quality. She needs to bear her husband’s bad temper. Every time when she wants to hang out with friends, she needs to ask her husband. After a while, her sister, Blanche, goes to there to live with them because of impoverished. Blanche is kind of sad that her sister married to a madman. They get lots of argue about how Stanley’s bad temper. Stella knows everything better than Blanche does. However, Stella can’t do anything to escape from Stanley, but she knows “the best [she] could do [is] make [her] own living” (25). This is significant to show the attitude when Stella facing the problems between her and Stanley. This suggests that Stella cannot help but just believe the way she chose is right in order to make her more confident. Stella got no right to speak at home as Stanley says “every man is a king” (107) in order to describe the un-freedom living quality to Stella.

bad temper. Stella knows everything better than Blanche does. However, Stella
can’t do anything to escape from Stanley, but she knows that the best she could
do is to make her own living.
