Explain
why does zinc react with concentrated sulphuric acid to give out sulphur dioxide rather than hydrogen gas?

Concentrated sulphuric acid is an oxidizing agent it will take reduction in a redox reaction. The reaction between zinc and the concentrated sulphuric acid is a redox reaction but not the common neutralization. The oxidation number of S was reduced from +6(SO4 2-) to +4(SO2).

It is in the CE level
