Bonjour means "hello".
The word is composed of two words:
bon means good and jour means day.
Its like saying good morning and good afternoon.
so Lady can say Bonjour to french people and they wont think you are strange at all.
I am sure about that! SMILE

You can say Bonjour! whether you are a lady or a gentleman, it is perfectly correct.

Bonjour means Hello, good day, good morning, and good afternoon.

Bonsoir means good evening, usually after 6pm.

Salut is a more informal way of greeting people at any time of day, it's like Hi in English.

Good luck!
