The population of a town was 2000 at the beginning of 2000. The population P of the town after n years can be represented by the following formula:
P = 2000 x r^n
It is known that the population of the town was 2805 at the beginning of 2005.
(a) find the value of r
(b) What will be the precentage increase in population of the town from the beginning of 2000 to the beginning of 2018?

(a) P = 2000 x r^n
2805 = 2000 x r^5
r^5 = 2805/2000 = 1.4025
5log r = log1.4025
log r = 0.02938
r = 1.07
(b) P at 2018 = 2000 x (1.07)^18
= 6760
Percentage increase = (6760 - 2000)/2000 * 100% = 238%
