有點混亂. 咁啦:
燕麥: oat
燕麥片, 麥皮: oatmeal 或 oat flakes.
燕麥片洒在餅乾上焗出來的是 oatmeal cookies
燕麥粉: oat flour 燕麥粉用來做麵包: oat bread
oat 本來只指燕麥整棵植物, 或指種子: 原粒的燕麥.

燕麥片是將燕麥壓成片狀, 煮成糊狀, 所以是oatmeal, 叫oats 只係簡稱. 燕麥片是正名, 就即是麥皮.

直譯是米糠, 不過可以來自任何穀物的糠, 包括米, 玉米, 小麥, 燕麥, 大麥, 小米等等.
糠就是穀粒的外皮, 連著胚芽.
wheat bran 就是小麥的糠了.
