dont you need to minus 3 x on the right side also? in which case 3x+2 - 3x , would equal 2? so it woulud be 6x=2 And on the first equation, how is 6x even possible? 9x-3 if you subract 3x, wouldn't that be 9x?

9x - 3 = 3x + 2
9x - 3x = 3 + 2
6x = 5
x = 5/6

Start by bringing all the x factors over to the left side of the equation and all the constants to the right side. When you shift them past the equals, their sign changes.

9x-3x=2+3

Once you have them arranged like this you can add the x numbers (variables) together and then the constants together aswell.

6x=5

To solve for x you need to divide each side of the equation by 6. You can't devide only the left side because its an equality. Meaning that any change you make on either side has to be the same on the opposite side. Like this:

6/6x=5/6

Note that 6/6 is 1 so that simplifies to:

x=5/6

Thats your answer.

9x - 3 = 3x + 2
6x = 5
x = 5/6.

9x - 3x = 2 + 3

6 x = 5

x = 5 / 6

9x-3=3x+2
9x-3x=2+3
6x=5
x=5/6

Get the constants on one side, and the Variables on one side
The end result should be: 6x=5 x=5/6

9x - 3 = 3x + 2

(+3)

9x = 3x + 5

(-3x)

6x = 5

(divide by 6)

x = 5/6

Hope I Helped.

get all x to one side and non x (numbers) to other side. Note when you bring a feature across the equal sign it changes sign, i.e - becomes + and vice versa.

so its 9x-3x-3=2
6x-3=2
6x=5
x=5/6
2009-12-02 2:44 pm
6x = 5
x = 5/6
2009-12-02 2:44 pm
9x-3=3x+2
6x=5
x=5/6
