[英文高手請入]幾時用compound noun

actually compound noun, 真係靠你平時睇得多, 學得多.
在英文中，compound nouns 可分為三大類:
1. Solid form
只將兩個字(adjective + noun; noun + noun; verb + noun) 連合在一起，成為一個 compound noun。例子多不勝數:

Wallpaper; Housewife; Football; Blackboard; Underground; Timetable; Grasshopper

2. Hypenated form
同solid form 差不多，但兩字中間用上了 hypen，例子也很多:

Home-owner; Day-dreamer; School-leavers; Salt-and-pepper


3. Open form
顧名思義，兩字(adjective & noun; noun & noun; verb & noun)擺在一起，以space 分隔，例: Distance learning；Lawn Tennis; Bass guitar


NOUNS WITH IDENTICAL SINGULAR AND PLURAL

Food, fruit, vegetable, bread and chocolate are nouns with identical singular and plural.


但food, fruit、vegetable、chocolate同都有加s: foods, fruits, vegetables and chocolates. 這些字加s是指不同類型的食物、水果、蔬菜及巧克力或泛指整個類別，不可以用在計算(counting)方面，例如:


all kinds of foods
various kinds of fruits
she loves vegetables
a box of chocolates
