How much 100 C steam is needed to rise 0 C water into 100 C water ??
Please show clear steps and explaination.

Let m be the amount of steam
Assume there is no energy lost to the surroundings
By the conversation of energy,
m(2.26*10^6) = (1)(4200)(100 - 0)
m = 0.186 kg (cor. to 3 sig. fig)

Let m be the mass of steam required
Heat given out by steam = mL
where L is the latent heat of evapourization of steam

Heat absorbed by water = 1 x 4200 x 100 J
Using the heat balance equation
mL = 420000
hence, m = 420000/L kg
