自1960 年代女權意識高張以來,女性不僅致力於追求社會地位與權力的平等,也開始注意媒體究竟是如何再現女性,如新聞中的女性、戲劇中的女性、廣告中的女性,其中又以廣告與性別的研究最多,雖然女性在現實社會中的角色與以往已大不相同,但媒體中的性別刻板印象卻沒有雖著時間與社會的變遷而有所改變。
Since the surging of awareness of female rights in 1960's, women not only strove for equality in social standing and power, but begun to keep their eyes on how the media was reshaping the female sex, such as in the press, drama play and advertisements. Most of the studies were centred on advertisements and genders. Although the role of women in societies is a lot different from it used to be, the stereotyped images of the female in the media have not experienced any change with the advance of time and society.
