1) “Would you open the door for me, Fred?” Miss Wong asked.
Change: Miss Wong asked Fred whether he would open the door for her.

2) “May I speak to Mr. Lo, please?” the caller asked.
Change: The caller asked whether he could speak to Mr. Lo.

3) “Would you mind closing the window, Jane?” Peggy asked.
Change: Peggy asked Jane whether she minded closing the window.
