Let the amount required be $x
York will have $(72 - x) while Sally will have $(12 + x)
3(72 - x) = (12 + x)
216 - 3x = 12 + x
204 = 4x
x = 51
York should give Sally $51
York has $72.Sally has $12.In order to let Sally have 3 time the amount of York,how much should York give Sally.
Let $y should York gives Sally,3(72-y)=12+y
216-3y=12+y
216-12=y+3y
204=4y
y=51
∴York should gives Sally $51
Hope can help you~^_^
