中國最大沙漠

塔克拉瑪干沙漠是中國最大的沙漠（世界第10），位於中國新疆的塔里木盆地中央，也是世界最大的流動沙漠，「塔克拉瑪干」在維吾爾語中是「進去出不來」的意思，人們稱之為「死亡之海」。其實塔克拉瑪干準確的翻譯應該是「大荒漠」，沙漠東西長約1000公里，南北寬約400公里，面積達33萬平方公里，這裡幾乎從不下雨，溫度能連續幾周在40℃左右。
The Taklamakan Desert is a desert in Central Asia, Takla Makan means "go in and you will never come out".
Taklamakan is one of the largest sandy deserts in the world, ranking 15th in size in a ranking of the world's largest non-polar deserts. It covers an area of 270,000 km2 (100,000 sq mi) of the Tarim Basin, 1,000 kilometres (620 mi) long and 400 kilometres (250 mi) wide. It is crossed at its northern and at its southern edge by two branches of the Silk Road as travelers sought to avoid the arid wasteland. In recent years, the People's Republic of China has constructed a cross-desert highway that links the cities of Hotan (on the southern edge) and Luntai (on the northern edge).
