Faculty rank (professor to lecturerr) is an example of discrete numerical data, is it true ?

I don't think Faculty rank (professor to lecturer) is discrete numerical data. Since numerical data can do addition, subtraction but ranking cannot do such operation. In fact, ranking is a ordinal data. It means that the corresponding numbers can only reflect the orders of the data but not their magnitude
