1)Both my sister and I [take after] our father.What about you? (take after menas look or act like).
2)I am doing my homework now. Please [turn down] the TV or use your headphone. (turn down in this situation means to lower the volume; it could also mean reject in other situations).
3)Our team is [going for] the gold medal in the coming Athletic Meet. (going for means with the goal of getting).
4)You should be ashamed of teasing your little brother.Stop [picking on] him. (picking on means teasing or bullying).
5)I will [call on] you when i arrive at Canada. (call on means visit).
6)A burglar [broke into] the Chan House while they were at the movies.(broke into means entered by force illegally).
7)Someone said there would be a meeting at 9:30, but i have not heard anything about it yet. Shall I [look into] it? (look into means investigate).
8)Bob [ran into] his english teacher at the supermarket yesterday. (ran into means met or found by chance; came across can also be used here, but it is needed in question 9).
9)the boys [came across] a deserted town on their way to their uncle's ranch. (Came across means met or found by chance. Although ran into has the same meaning, we don't say [running into a town].
10)You have to give some examples to [back up] your opinion. (back up means support).
