When do you think a baby should start drinking water?

My son is 3 months old and his pediatrician says he shouldn't be drinking water at this young... Well every once in a great while such as once a wk. Ill give him an oz. or 2 well it doesnt hurt him, The reason why I give it to him is I either add it in with Juice for his constipation which is hardly ever or I give him straight water but I dont sub it for food or anything like that, Sometimes I just feel a kid needs water just like we do, I know its in formula I just think its weird a human not having any water.. So what does everyone else think about this issue? When I do give him water its the gerber pure water...So wacha thinkin??? LOL

I'm so glad to hear from a parent who does what they think is best for their child.....:)
Newborns can have bottled water...so I really don't see why pediatricians believe any age would be too young. Perhaps they think most of us mothers are not smart enough to know NOT to give our baby tap water..... It doesn't take an eight year degree to figure this one out.....:)
Good going and continue doing the great job you're doing.

my son just starting sleeping through the night so I give him a few sips after his last bottle at night to rinse the milk from his mouth. That make up to about an oz or two a week.

yeah he's fine to drink a little bit of water at 3 months
my son was drinking water at that age ...and our doctor said it was ok , but mind you it was summer time and really really hot, so i asked her if it was ok to give him water and she said "yes, absolutely"

another thing..he's drinking formula and it's very sweet , so it's actually a good idea to give him a bit of water. , just like you're doing

I give my 3 week old a little bit of water, about a half an ounce every couple days. If I don't her poops are harder and water keeps everything going smooth if you know what I mean. The reason they say don't give newborns water is because they can get really sick or possibly die from water intoxication. As long as you don't give him too much it should be fine, stick to an ounce or so.

Well 3 months sounds a lil too early, water can give him unnecessary colic, but if he doesn't tend to get colic then I woudnt worry, I dont think that it would hurt him at all! But hes having tons of water on his formula or thru ur breast-milk

i started letting my baby sip on water at 4.5 months, hes not even to an OZ yet, I offer him water 2 times per day on a zippy cup and wow he loves it!!! He'd drink the entire cup if I let him

Formula is mixed with water.. so hes getting enough water already.
But if you think your son is ready for it, then do it.
I give my 4mth old son juice mixed diluted with water a few times a week, even though your not suppose to yet.. and he is just fine.
