1. A parachutist drops from an aircraft and is going to land on the rectangular region (80m and 100m). The squares A and B are two square huts of sides 10m and 16m respectively. Find the probability that he lands on the ground. (Suppose he cannot control where to land, so that everywhere is equally likely for landing.)

2. At the entrance of Paradiso Hotel, a shuttle bus comes in every 15 minutes and it waits 3 minutes at the bus stop. If a guest of the hotel does not know the timetable of the shuttle bus service, find the probability that he can get on the bus without waiting.

✔ 最佳答案

(1) Area of region = 80*100 = 8000 m^2
Total area of the huts = 10^2 + 16^2 = 356 m^2
Ground area = 8000 - 356 = 7644 m^2
Probability to land on ground = 7644/8000
= 0.9555
(2) For each 15 minutes period, the bus will be present for 3 minutes. Therefore the probability that a guest does not need to wait = 3/15 = 0.2

1.
The area of the region
=80x100
=8000m^2

The area of the two huts
=10x10+16x16
=100+256
=356m^2

So, his probability of landing on the ground
=356/8000
=89/2000

2.
The total of the of the time used for a bus to come and wait for the passengers
=15+3
=18minutes

Since the bus waits for 3 minutes, so the probability of the guest to get on a bus without waiting is
=3/18
=1/6
