Astronomy questions the Moon

1. If there were two moons, which were always on the opposite sides of the Earth, would there still be tides on Earth?

2. Some student said, "On the day of full moon, the Moon will rise not at 1pm or 1am, but very roughly at 6pm." Is this true? Why or why not?

1. There are still tides.
Because the ocean water is on the earth surface, the distance from the ocean to the nearer moon is shorter than the distance to the moon on the opposite side of the earth by a distance equal to the diameter of the earth. Given the fact that gravitational force follows the inverse square law, the force exerted by the nearer moon is stronger than the force exerted by the moon at the farther side. As such, there is still a net force pulling the ocean water towards the nearer moon.

The same phenomenon also occurs on the ocean water facing the moon on the other side of the earth. Therefore, two tides in a day still occur.

2. Yes, he is correct.
A full moon occurs when the moon facing the earth is also facing the sun, such that light reflected by half of the moon can be viewed on earth. This could only happen when the moon is on the side of the earth opposite to the sun. Therefore, the moon would rise during sunset, and fall at sunrise.

i guess is no tides, coz the force cancelled.
