Correlation coefficient

1 一般的Correlation coefficient 只可以量度兩個變數之間的線性相關程度。若果兩個變數的關係是非線性的﹐例如y=-(x-1)^2﹐則儘管這兩個變數之間的關係明確但Correlation coefficient 仍然會給出一很低之值。若果兩個變數是categorices的。則對應的Spearman's rank Correlation coefficient 只可以用來說明兩個變數是一起增加﹐一起減少﹐連是不是線性都不能提供。例如y=x^2的pearson's Correlation coefficient 是1!

2 Correlation coefficient 并不能提供兩個變數之間有沒有因果關係。
