According to my scientific calculator it is -99.6.
Are the people saying -96.4 doing this in their heads... if so they need to re-check their math. In the order of operations (I learned it as PEMDAS, it goes perenthesis exponents multiplication division addition subtraction) the addition comes before subtraction, people are doing subtraction first.
12 - (5 x 22) + (16 / 10)
12 - (110 + 1.6)
12 - 111.6 = -99.6
