Severe burning & pain during/after sex and urination! Could it be interstitial cystitis?

I have been having to urinate frequently for over a year, at least 14-15 times a day, I never sleep through the night. I always wake up at least once, usually 2-3 times to use the restroom, and that is with going to bed at 11 pm and waking up at 7 am. My doctor said it was from my birth control pills... ok whatever, but lately I have been have having pain during urination and when I wipe, which has been getting increasingly worse. Every time I have had sex it has been very painful, despite using lube, and the pain afterwards is excruciating. The pain I have when I pee in the hours after sex brings me to tears. I assume I my boyfriend and I are still STD free because we both were checked. But I got checked again last week and am waiting for the results.

Could this pain during urination, wiping and sex and sometimes just to touch my vaginal area be interstitial cystitis. Today, an hour after sex I was literally sobbing on the toilet from the pain. My boyfriend is forcing me to make another appt with the doctor on Monday, but I just want to be sure IC is a possibility before I bring it up to her.

She is also going to do a vaginal exam. I just got a pelvic ultrasound done because of the pain during sex but it came back normal. Please help...

Could it be? Yes, but just because your symptoms match up does not mean this is what you are suffering from.

Interstital cystitis is rare, with an estimated 2 million people suffering from it. You have fallen victim to trying to diagnose yourself over the internet. If you do this you will have everything in the book and your life span is only 2 weeks.

It could be a bladder infection that went unnoticed and is now something more serious, it could be that when you are having sex you are cutting yourself (I know this sounds dumb but it happens more times than you want to admit) from rough sex.

The list is endless and you are not doing yourself any favors by picking the 1 disease out their that we know very little about. Your symptoms, while they match up, could be a host of alot of other things. PID came to mind but then you said that you had a pelvic exam and it came up clean.

All you can do is go back to the doctor and enforce the idea that you are in extreme pain and you want every possible test done in order to find out what is wrong and how you can get better. The answer will come and do not assume it is the worst thing out their, because the odds are on your side that it is a simple, viral or bacterial infection easily treated, you just need to get to what it is.

Best of luck to you

You may have some kind of urinary tract infection. This happens a lot in women because their relatively short urethra allows easy entry of harmful bacteria. Since you will be seeing your doctor soon, you will soon find out what was causing your problem. In the meantime, I suggest that you drink nothing but cranberry juice as this will help flush out the bacteria in your urinary tract and makes you feel better.
