17 = R + 20.9–(1.9 x R)17 = R + 20.9 - 1.9R
1.9R - R = 20.9 - 17
0.9R = 3.9
9R = 39
R = 39 / 9

1. Careful with manipulation of + - signs
2. both decimal and fractions are usually accepted, but when it comes to recurring decimals, fractions are better represenations :)
