Unless you have another ear infection, you do not have to take any medication. If your hearing loss is severe enough that you have problem listening to what the teacher says, then you may need a hearing aid. I had my hearing tested after some firecracker exploded close to my ear. They found out that I had hearing loss at certain frequencies. Luckily, I did not need any hearing aid. The testing is actually quite fun. You sit in a sound-proof chamber. The tester goes through a list of words at different sound intensities, and you repeat what you hear. They also ask you to listen to a tone, and press a button whenever you hear it.

first of all don't worry !! my son was diagnosed with the same thing about your age. he was put on an IEP (independent education program)
and got mainstreamed back into normal classes in a year but, kept a "lab class" so he good have a little extra help with some subjects.
he graduated this past year in the top 10% of his class. no medication at all. it's not that kind of problem. just had trouble being able to do exactly what he "heard". no worries kiddo you'll be fine

My understanding is that you have difficulty being able to focus. For example, in a room of people talking, you may have trouble being able to comprehend what a person two feet away is trying to tell you because of the loudness and distractions of others.

From what I know, there is no medication for this (I suppose they could try to compare it to ADHD). However, you would probably have to take Speech classes, as get a '504 plan.' This means your school would try to accommodate you by helping you out on quizzes, tests, and assignments. It's not a bad thing, don't worry about it. They are only trying to help you.

Alyssa! Don't worry. If it turns out your have an "auditory processing disorder" all that will happen is that you'll get more attention and possibly some special instruction in school. There is no medication for this kind of condition. And it doesn't have anything to do with mental retardation. All the testing can do is to help you do better in school. Be brave!
