What year did the New York Yankees win a World Series that put them ahead of any team for world series wins?

This was a lot of fun to cobble together!
When the Yankees won the 1937 World Series, they took the lead for good. Boston, the Athletics, and the Yankees were tied with 5.
Then, when they lost to the Braves in 1957, their loss total was 7, more than any other team had WON. Their 1976 loss to Cincinnati was their 11th loss -- more losses than any other team has won to this date.
The Cardinals are the Yankees worst team, beating them 4 times. The Dodgers are next with 3.

Wanna know a fun fact? The very first team with 2 World Series titles was the CUBS. After winning # 2 (consecutive) they haven't won since, though they have made 2 appearances.

If anything, I would say during the 1949-1953 which the yankees won five years in the row --- this put them ahead of any team...

Well like it has been said, there are many ways to answer, in 1923 with their first win, they had at that point more wins than ANY of these teams:
Philadelphia Phillies
St. Louis Browns (now the Orioles)
Brooklyn Robins (now the Dodgers)
St. Louis Cardinals
Washington Senators (now the Twins)

over the years they would pass up all the other existing teams

In 1937 the Yankees won their 6th championship which put them ahead of the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia A's.

The NL leader at the time was the New York Giants with 4. The Cardinals passed the Giants in 1944.
