ipod touch os?

I am a bit confused about ipod touch os. There are 3.1, 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 (iPhone?) Iwant to know what are differences of those. Also is that someone can already jailbreak ipod touch 3rd gen? And I would also like to know is that until next year therebe will be ipod touch 4th gen release or earlier than that? Thanks.

they are all the bugs fixes, of coz the larger # means better.3rd gen touch can't jb.
yes, next yr mid yr must hv new one release
