First of all, congratulations to your sister! I just have the same occasion as you- my sister just got married in a church beginning of the month!
Go back to your question. My advice is there is no way you need a long zoom DC in this occasion. If you want to take close-up, walk close to the persons! Normal DC takes at least 1-2 seconds to focus. People in wedding seldom freeze for more than 1 second (unless you only want to fill up with photos of persons praying!) Add to this, if you are using long zoom, meaning you’re aiming at a small area (compared to wide zoom where you can cover a large area), any small move you’ll need to re-position the camera. It is almost mission impossible to chase the moving persons. I haven’t even mentioned about the lighting condition of the church, and in the actual wedding day, probably you need to behave formal and cannot move around here or there to get the best position.
So, my advice is, forget about it. Bring your own DC and take shot whatever you can, and enjoy the atmosphere. Photo taking is the job of the photographer you’re going to hire.
What’s more, my company has a SX200IS. Good for casual and travel use. But obviously slow in focusing, especially in indoor environment. Panasonic GF1 is of course a lot better, but if you wan to add a long zoom lens (may be 18-180mm), over HK$15K is almost a minimum. The cost and the weight is not much smaller than a DSLR.
Good luck.
