Why didn't people discredit the New Testament when it was first written and distributed?

Researchers and experts agree that the New Testament books were written 40-60 years after the death of Christ. My question is...if what was written in the Books were lies why didn't anyone at that time record or write books that discredit what was written?? In that time (40-60 years after Christ's death) frame there were people still alive from the time Christ lived and preached. They could have testified against what was written in the Books. If you say because paper was hard to come by then same argument can be used on why the New Testament wasn't written earlier. Plus, 2000 years ago orally communicating information was precise because that was all they had. Also, writing down what the Rabbi preached was considered disrespect. People were supposed to memorize the Rabbi's teachings. Today, oral stories are just gossip and no one believes anything without a youtube video to support it.

Because there is nothing to discredit. They are God's word.

Deal with it

I'm a Christian and I agree with you concerning the antiquity of the New Testament. It is foolish for skeptics to argue that point because of the documentary evidence available.

One thing Christians have to keep in mind concerning your question, "Where are the discreditors?" is that history is written by the victors. Another point of interest is that the main detractor was Judaism and the Jews were scattered in 70 AD. Gnosticism which was the earliest Christian competitor (and heresy) used the NT books and created additional ones to spread their cause.

The real issue is the content not antiquity. That's where you see people calling it fables, etc., or ridiculing the substitutionary death of Christ.

Because a lot of people believe it to be true.

Oral traditions aren't precise no matter if they had to be or not.

And books have a way of traveling further than word of mouth. If you live in Judea and know something about Jesus, you're not going to know about some book that just got released in Rome. There's no internet or TV to tell you what's going on.

Also, the chances are that they couldn't read. Obviously Jesus couldn't, considering he never bothered to write anything down himself.

Also, Jesus probably never existed.

They did try to discredit it, but then they were killed... so you don't hear much from them.

The New Testaments were not all written in that time frame. Most were written 100yrs+ after the time Jesus would have lived.

The bible was compiled 300 years later. At that time they didn't care or know what the deal was. Now we do.

the desiples wrote the bible jesus told them that he would bring to their remberance what to write down, jesus is the author but the desiples wrote it. jesus has ushered in a new covenant, the old law is no longer in effect to all who belive, it is still into effect to the lost. the new covenant hebrews 10:16,18 is what we live under today as a christain today and this is where we live today is in the new testament the old is fading and will soon disapear, salvation comes when a peson belives by faith in the finished work of jesus at the cross where jesus died to take away the sins of the whole world never to see them again.

Where did you get all this crap?

The Bible wasn't written to be "the Bible" - it was cobbled together 300 years later. There were hundreds of writings around about various "messiahs" - these 4 are just the ones that were selected to support the beliefs of Constantine.

No, oral history was certainly not more accurate than it would be today. What a silly thing to say.

Until well into the second century Christianity was an obscure and insignificant Jewish heresy.

Why discount something that virtually no-one believes in?

Many people did try and discredit it. And rather than engage in debate, Christians typically accused the detractors of being heretics and killed them.
