(a) y is not a function of x since when x < 1/2, it is not defined.(b) y is a function of x since for all x >= 0, y is defined and also, one x value gives one y value.
(c) y is not a function of x since one x value may give two values of x, say when x = 0, y can be 2 or - 2 which is not allowed in function.
