1. Let f(x) = x^3 + ax^2 + 3x + 1f(-3) = -27 + 9a - 9 + 1 = 9a - 35 = 1
9a = 36
a = 4
2. Let f(x) = 3x^3 - 8x^2 + ax - 4
f(2/3) = 8/9 - 32/9 + 2a/3 - 4 = 2a/3 - 20/3 = -2
2a - 20 = -6
2a = 14
a = 7
