There are some possible reasons as follows:
1. Window problem (need to reinstal the window) or boot file problem (need to rewrite boot file)
2. Hard-disk problem, use Window "chkdisk" commend to try to fix the disk problem
3. Inconsistency between hardware &/or between hardware and the Window (this is quite a problem if you are not an IT expert
Recommended solution:
a) Assuming you are using the licensed Window XP
b) Turn on the PC and enter the "set-up" (usually either use "Del" key or "F2" key (you have to see the instruction from the screen when the PC starting up)
c) After entering the set-up, find out the setup for changing the boot drvier from c: drive to D: drive (usually the CD/DVD ROM defaulted as D:)
d) Then save change & exit
e) The PC will re-start and you must insert the Window CD immediately before it start
f) When PC started up and prompted the message to ask you to touch any key for booting the window CD, just touch any key
g) When entering into the window installation program, it will ask you whether to repair the window or to installation
h) select "to repair the window", it will then exit to a traditional screen (dark screen C:), you have to select the assigned no. of window, say no. 1 to enter the window drive,
i) then type the commend "chkdsk_/F" and enter to let it run the check-disk & fix-disk program
j) after finishing the checking, then further type "fix boot" to rewrite the boot file
k) finally, type the "exit" and let the window to restart, and see if the problem can be solved
If the above solution still cannot fix the problem, you may have to reinstal the window (make sure you have backup all data files and with all necessary hardware drivers' disks on hand before you start to reinstal.
