What to do when the internet connection keeps on blinking?

I extended a router-to-terminal cable from the router and I have a signal that's probably too weak, are there repeaters on the market which can boost intermediate distances, say 40 meters of cable???

my cable is a 8wired telephone cable and not a TV coaxial type, but wouldn't it be nice if we could have something like a repeater type box we could install just like the ones for a TV coaxial??

How do we figure out the bandwidth of the additional cable??? Isn't that determined by the transmitter in the PABX from the utility company? I guess it takes a IT wiz to figure what the rating of that repeater will have to be, different ranges and all...

Ethernet cable should be good for 100 meters. It is normal for it to blink when there is traffic and there may be traffic when you do not realize it (Windows file/printer sharing, background programs, etc.).

Are you getting any packet loss if you ping your gateway? Constant rapid flickering and packet loss could be some problem with improper wiring or device incompatibility. I have an older network card on one of my computers that seemed to have a problem auto-negotiating speed and had to be forced back to 10baseT speed to function properly, even on a 6 ft (2 meter) cable. Although, it works fine full duplex at that speed and that is still faster than my DSL.

Yea You could do that. but if your trying to keep the light from blinking make shure all computers are off the network! ;) I hope that Helps

did it work before you added 40 meters of cable? There are repeaters usually for the whole bandwidth of the cable including tv.

so your talking dsl. in that case you'd have to deal with the local telco at least around here you would
