1) The population of a province in 2000 was 1500000 and it grows at a steady rate of 1.5%
each year. Find the population in 2004. (correct to the nearest thousand)

2)A liquid contains 40% of alcohol. How much water should be added to 12 litter of the liquid to yield a solution containing 30% of alcohol?

3)Beatrice buys a car at $84000. If its value depreciates by 10% every year, what is its value 3 years later? (correct to nearest dollars)

1) The population of a province in 2000 was 1500000 and it grows at a steady rate of 1.5% each year. Find the population in 2004. (correct to the nearest thousand)


no of year= 2004-2000= 4 years
Required value
1500000(1+1.5%)^4
=1592000 (correct to the nearest thousand)


3)Beatrice buys a car at $84000. If its value depreciates by 10%
every year, what is its value 3 years later? (correct to nearest dollars)


Required value
=$84000(1-10%)^3
=$61236

1)the population in 2004
=1500000 * (1 + 1.5%)^4
= 1500000 * 1.015^4
= 1592045.326
= 1592000(correct to the nearest thousand)
2)Let x litter water should be add :
( 12*40%) / (12 + x) = 30%
12 + x = 16
x = 4
4 litter water should be added to 12 litter of the liquid to yield a solution containing 30% of alcohol
3)$84000 * (1 - 10%)^3
= $61236
